So… Just How Do You Get Started As An Internet Marketer?

Doug Stewart - Internet MarketingThe two main questions I’m asked the most are – “How can I get started as an internet marketer or "How can I make (more)money online?”

So here are the answers to those questions.

Of course they can only help you get started IF you take the neccessary action needed to make it happen for yourself as I said in my previous post.

These are the two things that I had to do in order to get on the path to becoming an internet marketer and you will hear a lot of other people say the same thing who are also successful. The great thing is that you can take the skills learnt and use them in offline as well as online businesses.

First offEducate yourself, internet marketing is a skill like any other. If you are willing and able to invest in your education to learn the skills needed, then you too can make money online.

Secondly - You have to take ACTION, or to be more precise CONSISTENT action!

‘Having a go’ or ‘giving it a try or shot’ are no good and will NOT result in getting to where you want to be. This is not a hobby that you do a bit at a time. It is a business and you need to treat it as so. Sure if you want to make a little bit of money here and there by selling an ebook about your hobby, then by all means go for it.

But ask yourself – do you REALLY want to become an internet marketer and make a full time income online?

Do you have a STRONG and PASSIONATE enough reason or desire to make money online, which will in turn, improve your current situation?

If not, then you really need find it and quickly! You have a great opportunity to change everything for yourself from this moment onwards. One of my favourite saying is "Onwards and Upwards" because that's where you need to go in order to achieve your dreams.

So here’s how you get started. Let me ask you if you ever heard the expression – ‘Supply And Demand’?

It basically means to supply to the demand of a market. But if you turn it around it obviously says… Demand And Supply. In other words you need to find what people are wanting (DEMAND) and give them the solution (SUPPLY)

Here’s how…

Before you decide to make money online you need to do your RESEARCH. Yeah I know boring but this is what you need to do in order to find out what the demand is.

You need to decide upon a niche (market) to build your internet business within, then a sub-niche within that.

Let me give you an example…

Internet marketing is a niche, list building is a sub-niche within it. Social media subjects such as Twitter, Facebook and generic subjects such as Driving Traffic are also sub niches within internet marketing.

The most important thing however when doing this is to ensure there is a DEMAND in that sub-niche that you can SUPPLY a solution to. Please, please, please don't go on an assumption you know what people want or you create a product thinking that loads of people will think it's great and buy it.

Do you see now what I mean? Sure it may seem obvious but so many people skip this step and just jump into ‘trying to make money’ as a complete marketing newbie.

At this point you may want to leave this page– That fine by me, but if you’re leaving this page now then you’re not ready for this information and you may go somewhere else looking for the answer – In other words, you’re looking for the ‘quick fix’ or 'magice button' – Let me tell you now – THEY DON'T EXIST!!

So if you’re ready and still here let me share more…

If you do your research and find your target market, that is in demand for a solution to their problem, then you know that’s a good niche to build your online business from.

From that moment on you have to implement a few core actions to generate an income as an internet marketer -

1 – Give great value to your market
2 – Drive traffic
3 – Build a responsive email list
4 – Continually over deliver value to your subscribers (develop relationship)
5 – Offer high value, related offers / services to your list

And that’s it!

Certainly there’s a lot more in depth actions to it in terms of developing your skills with each of those areas, but by taking action and just doing it you will learn and you will see progress and results.

So let me share with you some quick basics on each of these five actions above…

1 – Give great value to your chosen market

To do this simply get your own blog started within your chosen niche ( I will cover how to chose a niche shortly). Consistently post to the blog each week or at your chosen time. Eventually you'll be able to do this on automation thereby freeing up your time for other things.

2 – Drive traffic

For free traffic you’ll have to start being consistent at working to drive it to your blog. Become an active participator in popular forums for your niche and use social media sites like Facebook and Twitter to become an active person within your niche in order to build your reputation as the big kahuna so that more people will turn to you for advice.

3 – Build a responsive email list

Give something of value away for free in exchange for their email address. Something such as a report/ebook or audio interview clip etc.. will do. If you don’t have one of your own or cannot yet create one then get one created by an outsourcer. You could also consider buying a PLR item and making it your own by changing it.

4 – Continually over deliver value to your subscribers (develop that relationship)

This is nice and simple to implement, but it takes time to develop a strong relationship with your subscribers so just stick at it.

All you have to do as you continue to post on your blog, is drop your subscribers an email and share the posts with them. Encourage interaction and over time your list response will increase.

Which brings us on to…

5 – Offer high value, related offers / services to your list

By working continually on point number 4 above this aspect will grow and grow. The most important thing to always remember in terms of email marketing to promote offers is NEVER EVER send anything out that is not in the best interests of your subscribers.

You should only ever send high quality, value packed promotions to your list. Lose sight of that and you’ll instantly TRASH the relationship with them that you’re working hard to maintain. The whole point of building a list is to maintain a good healthy relationship with your subscribers so that they will TRUST you enough to buy from you when you send them an offer.

The only question now is… Will you take the action needed?

I sure hope so, internet marketing can change your life – You just have to educate yourself and keep pushing forward.

    Hye Doug,

Thought I would pop by your blog today and wow, great post and you defaintely laid out a very clear and concise method for those who are starting or want to be start as an internet marketer. I also loved the part about the Demand and Supply, and how you explained it, such a shame that when most people start out, they think it’s about supplying first.

Anyway, keep up the great blog post, and I look forward to reading your future post.

Best wishes and have a wonderful weekend
    Nigel

      Hey Nigel

      Thanks for your comment.

Yeah the Demand & Supply was based on my own experience when I first started and I bought licensed products from one of the ‘gurus’ thinking that just because I did then everyone else would want to make money and that the products I bought would help them do that. Unfortunately I didn’t do proper research as it was more of a gut feeling. Needless to say it didn’t work out for at least six months before I scrapped everything and started again.

So this post was to stop other people from making the same mistake and encourage them to do the necessary research by going on forums and chat rooms etc and finding out what information people are looking for.

Hope all is well with you

      Doug
