PRESENTATIONS!
The word itself can send shivers down your spine, make you break out in a cold sweay, make your hands clammy and ties knots in your stomach. It can set your heart racing and in some cases make you wish the ground wouild open up and take you.
I’m like that. Even when I’m doing a video for YouTube and I’m facing the camcorder in the comfort of my home sometimes I’m one step away from blind panic and the urge to switch the camera off and the thought about not doing the video can be overwhelming. “What if my mind goes blank?” ”What if I look stupid – maybe they know more than I do” “What if I bore them rigid?”
These are thoughts that sometimes go through my mind and to be honest -Yes my mind does go blank or I fluff what I’m saying and I have to do numerous takes. The racing thoughts and questions can add to your anxiety and create an escalating sense of fear.
For some people it comes naturally to get up on stage but for others it takes all their strengh. I know of one UK multi millionaire marketer who has done loads of workshops and bootcamps who confessed that he STILL gets nervous about going on stage at the big seminars and yet to see him on that stage, you would never guess.
But it is something I want to seriously overcome because there is huge amounts of money to be made in public speaking. The reason is that so many people experience what I’ve just described that there are a shortage of speakers and those who do go on stage, especially at the seminars and bootcamps, can make a shed load of money from with a couple of hours work right through to a day’s speaking that will earn them a few thousand dollars/pounds.
So I’ve decided to take the bull by the horns and am in London this weekend for the day at Dr Joanna Martin’s ‘Presentation Secrets’ workshop which I’m seriously looking forward to.
Joanna used to be a practicing medical doctor in Tasmania, then left that role to become an aspiring actor. Today she is a professional speaker focusing specifically on how to sell from the stage and she makes incredible money, to the tune of a seven figure business, by speaking around the world.
So I’m really hoping to overcome this fear and turn it around and create great presentations and then to eventually get up on stage at one of these big bootcamps.
